DYI Swap AT to DCT. Yes it possible

Dedicated steps to swap AT on DCT

Part1 ( Hardware parts )

-12 51 7 581 112 – wiring
-83 22 2 147 477 - DCT Oil 8l.
-51 16 9 141 518 - Cover center console
-61 31 9 133 067 and 61 31 9 213 647 - gear selector
-61 31 9 192 483 - park system for DCT
-DCT Transmission ( from E9X/E89 n54 n55 )
-DCT flywheel. Very important.
-If you have 2009.01+ car you number is - 21 20 7 590 853 ( 6 bolts 11 22 7 520 706 )
-If you have 2009.01 < car you number is - 21 20 7 593 469 ( 8 bolts 11 22 7 520 706 )
The different about flywheel only in bolts pattern.
-Rear differential 2.56

Part2 ( ECU parts ) ( If you have 2008/09> just skip this part )

MSD81 ECU (12 14 7 616 431 ) - if you have 2008/03 just skip this part
DSC Pump (34 51 6 789 308 or 34 51 6 863 356 ) - if you have 2008/09 just skip this part
DSC Sensor (34 52 6 780 334 or 34 52 6 850 375 ) - if you have 2008/09 just skip this part
DSC Sensor plug (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...95&hg=34&fg=20 ) - if you have 2008/09 just skip this part
I can’t find this part #17 . But I buy used harness from car 2009+ and get this plug from it.
JBE2 or JBE3 ECU (61359286790 ) - if you have 2007/09 just skip this part
DCT shift paddles or m3 shift paddles

Part3 (harness to DCT Gear Selector )
You should to made the wiring harness for DCT gear selector switch.
Use this link to download scheme. ftp://share:share@ftp.corbina.net/DCT/
You should to made and integrate the harness, marked blue color in my scheme
To do this you need following parts:
4 pin jack plug 61 13 8 380 696
2 pin jack plug 61 13 6 925 634
and also 6 pins 61 13 0 005 197 - 6
Also you need 10 pins jack plug. Unfortunately you can't buy it, but you can do it yourself. You should to buy a generic 10-pin connector with a spacing of 2.5 mm ( like this http://www.kosmodrom.com.ua/pic/HU-13.jpg )

http://www.bimmerboost.com/attachmen...6&d=1382963478

Part4 ( Replacing JBE ECU ) ( if you have 2007/09 > skip this part )
You can find JBE ECU under the feet of the passenger seat.
First you should replace it on new one JBE2 or JBE3 ECU (61359286790 ).
After this you should integrate D-can bus line for new ECU. ( Old cars have K-line and new ECU will not work )
Change pin on OBD2 socket
7 to 14
and put the additional wire between OBD2 socket pin 6 and JBE ( blue connector ) pin 17
http://www.bimmerboost.com/attachmen...7&d=1382963527

Part5 ( Replacing DSC ECU ) ( if you have 2008/09 > skip this part )
Replace DSC unit on new one.
Replace DSC sensor on new one. ( You can find DSC sensor under drive seat, under carpet )
http://www.bimmerboost.com/attachmen...8&d=1382963579
Replace DSC Sensor Plug. The DSC sensor should be connect to DSC unit follows
DSC UNIT > DSC Sensor
39 > 4
27 > 2
11 > 3
28 > 1
After this you should calibrate your DSC unit and sensors. ( use bmw ISTA to do this ),

Part4 ( Replacing MSD80 on MSD 81 ) ( if you have 2008/03 > just program it )
Replace you MSD80 on 81.
Very important! you can't use used MSD81 unit. you should buy it new
Program it on Zub 7628524
Do not forget to transfer values about injectors in the new MSD81.

Part6 Programming and Coding
I use NCS Expert and Win KFP to program and code my car
Remove FA $205
Remove value that starts # and Add #0909
Add FA $2TC
Make FA write on CAS and NFRM
Code ECU: MSD81/CAS/Kombi/IHK/JBFE/NFRM/GWS
Program MSD81 on Zub 7628524
Program GS40 on Zub 7600042
Update you Kombi/NFRM/GWS

How much for the parts on Tischer O_O (oh gawd I don't wanna know). Probably better to just buy a wrecked DCT donor car.

Oh well it's probably better than a costly custom transmission rebuild!

One of the best posts in here. Sadly its gone un noticed.

@klipseracer, @coolbho3k - Thank's

This is awesome, but must cost a fortune between buying the DCT and having to buy a different ECU.

Yeah. Again, is I'm assuming it's probably a lot more economical to try to find a wrecked car with DCT? Does anyone know if the N55 DCT part is the same DCT as the 335is? Did any N54 equipped 135i come with DCT? Cause the 335is is a RARE car.

You can use parts from N54/N55 E90/E82/E83. All they have same DCT trans, flywheel and rear differential. Also you can use DCT trans and flywheel form Z4 E89.

I would love to do this, well done sir! How much did all the parts including the DCT trany run you? I am assuming you did the swap yourself?

DCT Conversion

I came across this thread which covers doing an automatic to DCT conversion, I have an o6 M6 with SMG and I would like explore converting it to a DCT gearbox. The person who covered this conversion seems to be quite knowledgeable and I would like ask some questions around the DCT Drive logic harness and making the custom plug for the DCT shifter.

lfelunden 04-11-2014 09:16 AM

To people who say DCT trannies cost much, I can get one for 800 bucks lols :D

Jeremy 04-11-2014 09:21 AM

Ill take one for $800

Taron 10-21-2014 05:31 AM

Anyone tried to do the same on XI models ?

E90gone 08-12-2015 12:20 PM

Has any one done this? I am
Looking to go this route.

_ink 08-13-2015 04:32 AM

LOL, the OP has done this.

gotboost914 11-26-2015 09:03 AM

can you have a DCT tranny in a xDrive ?

OmarElk 01-12-2016 12:34 AM

Yea I wanna do this on an X-drive model but I would imagine you would possibly need to make custom sized axles and drive shafts?

OmarElk 01-12-2016 12:36 AM

Actually I think the it should be the same

valy 07-18-2016 01:10 AM

why is an MSD81 needed? I have seen MSD80 with DCT swap, but not sure how it was done.

TwistedX 10-16-2016 01:09 PM

Can we clarify what is needed exactly for an 08 or 09 model with Steptronic/AT?

OmarElk 01-16-2017 09:56 AM

I wonder is this could be swapped into the 335D with the ZF6HP26. Is the 335is ZF6HP21 physically the same on the outside will it bolt up?

TwistedX did you get any more info on this anywhere else. I have a 2009 Touring 335i and have got a DCT gearbox with flywheel from a wrecked 2011 335i coupe. But my mechanic has not done this particular swap before so we need clarification on some points.

Also is there another copy of the wiring diagram around I'm not sure if there is one at that link posted.

Has anyone out there done this or is this an urban legend.........

bravehart38 03-09-2017 04:36 PM

Bump. Plan on building a E90 track car with DCT
